Wilburn Royal Jr., affectionately known as “Heavy,” age 58, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2025.

Born on February 27, 1967, to the late Wilburn Royal Sr. and Betty Henton Royal, Heavy lived a full and impactful life rooted in love.

Heavy is survived by his children: sons Antwon Royal and Tyrek Royal, and daughter Miranda Simmons. He leaves behind his devoted life partner of 17 years, Beverly Holt, and his former wife, Samantha Royal.

He is also survived by his siblings: brothers Curtt Royal (Crystal), Patrick Royal, William Royal (Tammy), and Christopher Royal; and sisters Charlotte Tolbert, Trendra Cobb, Sonya Royal, Michelle Hallback, Rachel Royal, Evelyn Royal, Felecia Royal, and Alice Royal.

His legacy continues through his seven cherished grandchildren, and a wide circle of nieces and nephews, including Ariel, who has been working with Beverly in arranging his final journey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Demarcus and Windell Royal, and his sister Lynndale Royal.

Heavy was a man of many talents. He was dedicated to his father’s concrete business, proudly worked as a certified radiology technician, and became a licensed CDL truck driver. His work ethic and versatility were admired by many. He was an active member of the Islamic community and practiced Islam with faith and devotion.

Though originally from Georgia, and having spent time in North Carolina, Florida became home. Those who knew Heavy knew his passions: fishing on a quiet day, preparing a good meal for loved ones, thoughtful games of chess, and laughing over episodes of Family Guy and South Park. He was intellectually curious, enjoying deep conversations about history and life. He had a deep love for the color royal blue, and his truck was his prized possession.

Heavy was the opposite of selfish—a kind-hearted man whose presence brought comfort to others. His friendships ran deep, especially with his two best friends, Brandon and Chad, who stood by him through thick and thin.

Special thanks are extended to Beverly Holt for her unmatched commitment and care, to Curtt Royal for his tireless support and love for his brother, to Joseph for his time and compassion, and to Chad for his steadfast friendship and helping hands.

A funeral service will be held at Best Care Cremation, 15381 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33760, on October 18th, with a visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, and a service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.

Heavy’s memory will live on in the lives he touched—with laughter, wisdom, love, and loyalty. May he rest in peace.
