Mark James Sena
Born in Ohio, Mark was a fierce supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Seeking warm weather and sunshine, Mark and his wife moved down to Florida, where they settled and started a family. He was a hardworking member of the Clearwater Police Department for 25 years, earning himself the nickname “Officer Smiley” for his positive demeanor in any situation. In recent years, he enjoyed his duties at Raymond James Financial as a security guard.
Mark was well-known amongst his family, friends, and peers for his infectious laughter, wisdom, guidance, and unwavering kindness. He loved to play the guitar and drums, often encouraging his wife and daughter to start up a “family band.” He would display his air guitar skills while listening to his favorite songs or drum on the steering wheel in the car. Mark was happiest spending time with his family, playing with his grandson, and reminiscing over funny memories and inside jokes.
He is survived by his wife, Christie; his daughter, Rachael (Bryce); his grandson, Oliver; his siblings, Monica (Charlie), Denise (Jeff), Tami (Paul), David, and Diana (Gene); his mother-in-law, Joan; his sister-in-law, Jodie (Edward); and his brothers-in-law, Jeff (Lily), and Rick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic Sena and Patricia Hurd; his stepfather, Skip Hurd; and his father-in-law, Bill Armstrong.
A small private family celebration will be held to commemorate Mark’s life. There will be no public funeral services. In lieu of flower arrangements, Mark’s family would appreciate donations made in his honor to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL.

I still remember when working evening shift out west, 1600-2400, or with OCB, 1500-2300, then going to the old FOP gym for a workout afterwards and seeing Mark and Joe Ruhlin regularly working out together. Mark was my phase 2 FTO and Ponderosa and Ruby Tuesdays were the places for dinner. Mark and I would talk about work, working out (He was a taskmaster when spotting), Christian music, and, of course, our faith in Jesus Christ. Condolences to the family and praying for God’s comfort and peace. Farewell CPD brother “Smiley”.
Mark was great to work with.. he was a fair no-nonsense officer… much respect for Mark.. he fought hard.. continued to work during treatment.. which was not easy. God Be with his family. And friends .. Mark was loved. He will be missed . ✝️💙
I’m so sorry to hear that Detective Mark passed away. He was my FTO for my first and last phase back when I was an officer with CPD. He was a kind soul. I remember when he beat leukemia back in the day. He didn’t know it at the time; but, I too was fighting my own health battles. I’ll always remember him fondly for his ability to smile and keep a great attitude, even in the toughest of times. May the Lord God comfort you all during this difficult time. I wrote about Detective Mark in my book about a year ago, ironically. I’d love to bless the family with a free copy. It’s called “From Glory to Glory.” God bless you all, Shannon & Rich Hladik
Mark,
You were a pleasure to work with, and I don’t recall a time you weren’t smiling. I’ll never forget our Trans-Am talks!

I’ll never forget Mark. He taught us all patience. He was always smiling.
I worked with Mark at the Clearwater Police Department, and I can honestly say that Mark was a great cop and a truly good man. He was soft-spoken and even-tempered, and he treated everyone with respect at all times. I know that Mark had a long-term battle with illness, and I am sad to hear of his passing. Mark was a light in the world, and I am truly saddened by his passing. To Mark’s family, please accept my most sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the loss of such a wonderful man.
Mark was a great brother in law! He could always make you laugh. He loved watching Key & Peele with his nephew, Justin. He will be missed ❤️
