Joan “Joanie” Davis, age 71, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Born on December 11, 1953, in New York, Joanie was the beloved daughter of the late Dorothy and Stanley Dudzinski. She grew up in Mount Vernon, NY, and later made her home in Newtown, CT; Portsmouth, NH; and most recently, Dunedin, FL.
Joanie is survived by her loving family: her son Shane Davis and his wife Kerri, and their children Aubree, Anabelle, and Griffin; her daughter Alicia Davis Gaide and her husband Matt, and their children Amelia, Starla, and Piper; and her daughter Jean Rooney. She is also survived by her siblings Ronnie Grosch, Frances Houghton, Ann Dudzinski, and Stephen Dudzinski; as well as three nieces, four nephews, one grandniece, and six grandnephews. She remained close with her former husband, Richard Davis.
Joanie spent 15 years working at FedEx Office/Kinko’s in Portsmouth, NH, followed by 9 years at The Medicine Shoppe in Dunedin, FL, where she was known for her warm and dedicated customer service. She was deeply loved and respected by coworkers and customers alike.
A lover of nature and the arts, Joanie found joy in gardening, animals (especially her cats), thrift and vintage shopping, and music. She was an active volunteer at the Portsmouth Music Hall and the Ruth Eckerd Hall, always embracing community and creativity. Whether attending a Woodstock reunion or dancing at a Gasparilla parade, Joanie was always ready for fun.
Guided by her Christian faith, Joanie embraced life with positivity, humor, and gratitude. She had an eye for beauty in the little things, a flair for fashion, and a heart full of kindness. A collector of unique treasures and meaningful moments, she made friends wherever she went and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Joanie was a hard worker with an enduring spirit that stayed strong throughout her life.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends. Details will be shared once finalized.

So sad to hear about Joanie passing. I always loved seeing her at the Dunedin Community Garden. She did love gardening and she grew some amazing plants. It’s touching to see that mentioned in her obituary. We will continue to miss her at the Community Garden. May her memory always be a blessing. Our sincere condolences to all of Joanie‘s family and friends. With much love from Elizabeth and all the gardeners at the Dunedin Community Garden.
Always a big heart and an infectious smile, you are missed by all, Joanie! God bless, you.
Joanie was truly one of those rare people who could brighten your entire day with just a smile. I knew her from the wonderful Medicine Shoppe in Dunedin. She went far beyond her job duties & she genuinely cared about every person who walked through those doors. Her warmth and kindness were evident in every interaction, from remembering the little details about your life to offering sincere compliments that could lift your spirits.
Even during her courageous battle with cancer, Joni continued to be a beacon of light for others. She had this incredible ability to make you feel seen and valued, whether she was helping with your prescription or simply taking a moment to notice and compliment your earrings. Those small gestures of genuine human connection meant more than she probably ever knew.
Jonie’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched with her caring spirit, her infectious smile, and her reminder that kindness truly makes the world a better place. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Rest in heavenly peace, Jonie. Thank you for showing us all what it means to spread light in this world.
