The family of Gregory William Schiminske of Largo, Florida is saddened to announce his sudden passing on July 18, 2026 at the age of 72 years.

Gregory was born on September 17, 1953 in Auburn, NY to the late Henry Schiminske and Jean D’Antonio Schiminske. He attended St. Francis Elementary School and Auburn High School graduating with the class of 1971. Greg was employed by Owens Illinois beginning in the late 70s. His line of work with Owens brought him to the Atlanta, GA area and then on to Waco, Texas. Once Greg retired in 2012 he relocated to Largo, Florida which brought him closer to family.

Greg loved life and lived it to the fullest. He possessed a love for music, attending various concerts along the way. He developed a fondness for karaoke with the encouragement of his wife, Lisa. They were recognized as the “Dynamic Duo”! Music and dancing became a big part of their life together. Greg enjoyed travel both here in the states and abroad. His love for scuba diving brought him to various dive locations in the Caribbean and Central America.

Gregory was a man who possessed many skills. Like his father, he never refrained from tackling a project and was a master at doing so. He was gifted at woodworking, creating for his family beautiful items both small and large to be treasured as heirlooms.

Greg’s greatest achievement in his life was his family which he was so proud of! He spent many years camping alongside his parents and siblings when his children were young. He also spent many years supporting his two children, Jonathan and Jessica with whatever endeavors they pursued. He was always there for them as he was for his grand daughter, Gabriella- her Papa! Greg was truly a FAMILY man!

Greg is survived by his loving wife Lisa Schafer, his son Jonathan Schiminske (Jacqui Bracey), his daughter Jessica Schiminske (Allan Weistock), granddaughter Gabriella Schiminske with whom he had a very special bond and step granddaughter Chloe Cantalupo.

Also surviving are siblings Cynthia (Fred) Prentice, Judith Schiminske (Tom D’Amore), Arthur (Cynthia) Schiminske and Jeffrey (Lisa) Schiminske along with nephew Christopher (Kristen) Prentice, nieces Kari (Kevin) Cunningham, Lindsay and Amy Schiminske.

Greg’s marriage to Lisa added more family joy to his life. He is also survived by stepson Thomas Schafer (Heidi Krogstad), step grandchildren Abigail, Kyle and Asher Schafer, brothers-in-law Bruce, James and Jeffrey Bork and sister-in-law Lara Bork.

Gregory was surrounded with an abundance of love. A celebration of his life is being planned to take place in Florida.
