Emily Mead Geiger, age 91, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on May 24, 1935, Emily was the daughter of the late Francis W. Mead and the late Carolyn Brill Mead.
Emily is survived by her husband, Grant Geiger; her six children, Barbara Coon, Beverly Nowlan, David Licht (Sally), Gerie Licht, Libby Licht, and Carrie Licht; step-son, Grant Geiger II (Autumn); by her sister, Nancy Baxter (Frank); her brother, Robert Mead (Patricia); her sisters-in-law, Ruth Geiger and Melissa Walsh; her grandchildren, Ryan Coon (Shannon) and Breana Coon (Rob); her great‑granddaughter, Edie; her nephews, Robert Baxter (Barbie), Greg Mead, Jeff Mead, Eric Geiger (Kaye), and Philip Geiger (Laura); and her nieces, Hillary Evert (Justin) and Janine Shinagawa (Nate).
She was preceded in death by her niece, Anne Baxter Yokopenic (Craig), mother of Kevin Yokopenic; her brothers‑in‑law, Frank Baxter, Greg Geiger, Gary Geiger (Deborah), and Patrick Walsh; and her sister‑in‑law, Patricia Mead.
Emily traveled the world, making homes in many places before settling in St. Petersburg with her husband, Grant. She was a gifted seamstress, cook, and artist; an avid auto‑racing fan; and a devoted lover of farmers markets, flea markets, theater, music festivals, gardening, and cats. She loved to chat, and following a phone call with Emily, her father often told other family members, “I listened to your sister or mother today.”  With her sharp memory and storytelling talent, Emily served as a valued and reliable family historian.
A private Celebration of Life will be held by the family in the fall.
Emily’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Anthony’s Hospital, Bayside Care Center, Bayfront Hospital, and Suncoast Hospice/Empath Health for their compassionate care.
Those wishing to honor Emily’s memory are invited to donate to Hospice, the Humane Society, or an organization of their choice.

Grant, Many wishes of love and peace to you and your family. My mom and I had such fun when we would hang with you and Emily outside at Suncoast Towers, especially my mom – a small town girl from Maine. Our conversation was always friendly and lively, and my mom loved Emily’s storys of family and travel. She will be missed!!! Hugs

I am so fortunate to have been able to call Emily a true friend. Emily has enriched my life over the past 40+ years. While Emily’s presence has moved on to a different place, the love and effect she shared will continue in her friends and family. Thank you for being a part of my life’s journey.
Sorry to see you go. Love you!
