Beverly Coatar
Beverly Coatar, age 81, of Homosassa, Florida, died peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Leonard Rospenda and Lottie Danowski. On June 29th, 1974, she married Donald Coatar. Together, they shared 36 beautiful years of marriage.
Beverly is survived by her three daughters: Deborah (Tim) Ridley, Barbara (Robert) O’Donnell, and Robin Stewart, and four grandchildren: Cassidy & Jason Ridley and Meagan and Robert (Bobby) O’Donnell. And cousin & best friend: Kathleen Smeja.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Coatar (December 7, 2010).
Beverly was an auxiliary member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles in Homosassa.
Don and Bev established their life in Lake Villa, Illinois. They became active members of St. Peter’s Church and School community. In 2000, they moved to McHenry, Illinois, to a beautiful home with a pool, that created even more memories with family and friends. In 2020, Beverly moved to Homosassa, Florida to live out her dream of becoming a Floridian.
Beverly loved music, of all sorts, and was a piano player. She loved playing a wide variety of games with friends and family. She was an avid gardener, often the envy of her friends. She was the original scrapbooker, creating photo albums from the hundreds of photos she took. She was a proud Polish woman, making homemade pierogies with her children and grandkids every year at Christmas. She was an animal lover; especially dogs.
Beverly’s proudest accomplishment was her family: her three girls and her grandkids. Sleepovers at Grandma’s are a favorite memory of all the grandkids. She was everyone’s biggest cheerleader.
Beverly was a quiet soul and a generous spirit. She was loved by all and will be terribly missed.
A memorial luncheon will be held at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Homosassa on January 18, 2026
There will also be a funeral mass held at St. Peter’s Church, Antioch, Illinois on Saturday, May 23rd, at 10am.

My heart goes out to the family. Beautiful woman inside and out🙏
I am so sad to here this news. I have always loved Bev. Back in her McHenry days I would do her hair and we shared so much together. It was not only about her hair it was a friendship that lasts beyond appointments. Prayers and thoughts for the family of such a sweet and loving lady ❤️
Beverly was a dear friend not only to me but to the many friends she made after moving to Homosassa, FL. I use to live in Vernon Hills, IL, not far from where Bev was from, but we met after we both moved to Homosassa. We would laugh about that. She is truly missed by me and many others. My deepest sympathy and love to the family.
My condolences to the family. I met Bev through our husbands. Don and Rick were co workers and friends for many years. I was amazed when she moved to Florida. She showed an energy for life that was enviable.

I always enjoyed talking with Cousin Bev. She was very optimistic and enjoyed talking about her family and the memories of the extended family. I will miss our phone calls and learning from her memories she had growing up. Beautiful memories especially about my Mom and Dad before I was born. Will miss you Bev. Support and prayers to the family.
